This year we are throwing a mermaid themed birthday party and I'd like to share some fun ideas and print outs that I made for the special day.
Every year our kids pick their theme for their birthday, and this year my daughter chose the 'mermaid theme'. I always try to decorate and jump in on the theme in as much places as I can.
For instance, we have an old corn hole set and I decided to paint it pinks and blues with glitter on it to make it match. I also found some fun mermaid fin blow ups at the dollar store that I will be using as decor, and when party city went out of business, I was fortunate enough to collect a bunch of decorations that will match this kind of party as well!
While I occasionally spend money on larger items like the soft play setup I mentioned in a previous post, I always set a budget and strive to be creative with decorations. Since most decorations are discarded after the party, I focus on purchasing balloons and decorations at a steep discount, and I prefer items that are reusable or can be passed on after the event.
Where to find discounted items?
Hit the stores a week or two after a holiday! Many holiday items can be used year-round and they usually sell them for half off to even 90% off if you get really lucky!
Yard sales! Often you find great birthday items at yard sales!
Marketplace or your local free-cycle pages! After the party is over many people sell or even give away their party items for FREE!
PARTY IDEAS
We're organizing my daughter's birthday party in our backyard. We've arranged a bounce house, bikes, and scooters for the driveway, along with chalk, bubbles, and a corn hole game for the older kids and parents. It's all quite casual but enjoyable for everyone. We aim not to overspend on birthday parties, yet we want everyone to have a fun and relaxing experience. While some people hire entertainers, I prefer to find one or two exciting activities that align with the theme without being costly!
This is one of the activities I discovered for this year's mermaid party:
Amazon offers this entertaining kit featuring a variety of colors, allowing kids to craft their own sea creatures! They fill a mold, release it into water, and after the party, they can take it home in a small jar as a charming keepsake from the event.
I'm organizing a dedicated station for this activity and have created some fun signs, which I will provide for FREE below this post. This will make it an easy activity for the kids to do on their own or with parental assistance.
