Last year, my daughter turned two. After looking at many forms of entertainment and party rentals online, I purchased my own 'soft play' set up. It was cheaper than renting it; this way, I could enjoy it year-round for my kids as well, or sell it after the party!
I would love to share the items I purchased so you can create this gorgeous setup yourself! And of course, you can spice it up and make it suit your child's birthday wishes any way you would like.
Let's start with my first and favorite purchase: the bounce house! This was the inspiration for my whole setup and color scheme. In my opinion, it's the prettiest bounce house on the market for indoor or outdoor fun. The bright primary-colored bounce houses are great, too, don't get me wrong, but I was looking for something a little more classy. This company has many great and well-designed other products, so I would check them out at: https://www.bounceeco.com. I am not affiliated with them, I'm just a happy customer who loves their items. (I do link the images shown to the product on Amazon, with which I am affiliated).
Their bounce houses come in different sizes. I purchased the 8x8 size, which is a perfect fit for my two kids, who are 3 and 7. I can even bounce on there with them comfortably. For the party, it was also a great size, allowing a little more room for the little ones to bounce around without bumping into one another. It has truly been a hit ever since I purchased it, and it was worth every penny ($479 purchase price). We still set it up weekly, and the kids go wild!
Along with the smiley face bounce house, I couldn't help but purchase the $25.99 matching splash pad, it has been great fun also and I love the matching design. I did not use this item during the soft play party to avoid the little ones from slipping and sliding.
Next, the foam mats. I purchased these from Amazon, costing $48.95 per pack. I ordered six packs to make sure I had enough flooring to set up a nice area for all the little ones to play on. The neutral colors match the bounce house so well, that all together it's mesmerizing to look at.
What else? A ball pit? Despite purchasing one, I would honestly advise against it.
The balls go everywhere, and when some of the kids start diving in it, it can be quite nerfracking. The price of a good ball pit full of colorful balls adds up quickly too.
So what else did I add? Animal hoppers!
My kids and all their friends loved these (ages 2-6). The one that matched my colorscheme was the dog, but if you want to go wild and add a boldly colored one of an animal that your kiddo loves, don't let me stop you!
Now on to the big fillers that give the kids a chance to climb, build, and rock. Poufs and an arc playset! These products did take up a large chunk of the budget, however, we use them year-round. The poufs ended up as a great addition to my kids' rooms.
And the arc playset never gets old in the playroom.
The brand I ordered these items from is 'Gathre'. I'm not affiliated with this company either, but oh my, do they make beautiful, well-designed products. The poufs regularly retail for $220, but keep an eye on their sales. I got mine for just under $100 a piece. The arc playset retails for $400 on Gathre.com, but if you would like a more affordable option, Amazon offers a few options in the right color scheme as well (see images below for this option).
Last but not least, fillers! Anything that lights the area up and matches the theme of the party, I would advise getting a few stuffed animals, some fun-shaped pillows, and age-appropriate toys to add to the soft play setup. Maybe even a slide or ride-on car!
Here are some ideas below:
I hope my setup inspired you to purchase your own for your next party. As I mentioned at the beginning, in most areas, it is cheaper than renting a soft play setup. You are also not restricted to timeframes this way. You will get to enjoy the products for many more years and parties to come, or you sell the items afterwards, and it will save you even more compared to hiring a soft play business to come set it all up. Okay, it might require some extra labor, but I promise you that it will be worth it! Your soft play area will be unique, classy, and different from any setup that anyone has ever seen before! Happy celebrating!
Average breakdown of the total cost of the soft play set up (without fillers):
Bounce House $479
Foam Mats $300
Arc Playset $400
Pouf (2x) $300
Animal Hopper (2x) $20
Total: $1,499.00
